Cooper Hewitt Installations

Starting in 2018, I orchestrated a long-standing relationship between the Senior Curator of the Cooper Hewitt Museum, Ellen Lupton and Made Music Studios to work together on highlighting the importance of sound in design. Out of this partnership came two exhibitions that I worked to help develop and design. Trash Bot, the first installation, was showcased in the exhibit Hear, See, Play: Designing with Sound at the Cooper Hewitt Museum in 2018 and was created in partnership with the visual design studio Marcos Key.

THE CONCEPT

Visitors become the sound designer for Trash Bot, a street-cleaning machine. Users must pick a melody, an ambience, and a special effect to communicate Trash Bot’s four actions and express the machine’s personality. The goal being to teach the importance of sound as a design medium to communicate both functionally and emotionally.

Symphony of Healthcare

The design of an interactive exhibit that proposed a new system of alarms in hospitals to alleviate patient distress and physician desensitization. The sonic installation highlights the importance of sound as a design element in improving the intuitiveness, environmental health and safety of patients. The installation was showcased in the exhibit The Senses: Design Beyond Vision at the Cooper Hewitt Museum in 2018.
